Donny Smith brings a combination of athletic experience, strength coaching, and youth fitness expertise to Compass. A native of Sterling, Virginia, and former Park View Patriot, Donny was a two-sport All-State athlete in high school, competing as a heavyweight wrestler and offensive guard in football. He continued his football career at West Virginia University as part of the team that won two Big East Championships and three consecutive bowl games- the Sugar, Gator, and Fiesta Bowls. Donny later transferred to James Madison University, where he started in 10 games as the Dukes held the nation’s #1 ranking for 12 consecutive weeks and captured the CAA Football Championship.
Donny earned a degree in Kinesiology at JMU and began his career in collegiate strength and conditioning. He held positions at Wagner College, James Madison University, and UNC Charlotte, where he trained athletes across football, basketball, baseball, lacrosse, swimming and diving, golf, baseball, field hockey, soccer, track, and other sports.
Donny currently works as the manager of the The Fieldhouse in Chantilly where he works with athletes that range from little league to professional and Olympic-levels. Donny’s experience extends beyond collegiate athletics. He has planned and developed youth programs for the YMCA in Reston, regularly trains youth athletes and athletic teams, and currently coaches high school football in Loudoun County. Donny is a CrossFit Level 1 certified coach and has owned and operated CrossFit Hydraulic in Chantilly, offering strength training, functional fitness, injury prevention, flexibility and mobility, body tempering, cardio programming, high-intensity interval training, and weight-management support.
